Reverend Dr. Byron C. Moore, MPC, DD
A native of Detroit, MI, Rev. Dr. Byron C. Moore comes to The Saint with a diverse background which has marvelously prepared him to serve the needs of our community! During his most recent
pastorate at Vernon Chapel AME Church in Flint, MI, his community activism and social justice emphasis provided pivotal, vocal and visible leadership around the grave issue of the contamination of the city’s water supply by lead. Pastor’s audiences with the Governor and Mayor, media interviews, and indefatigable advocacy for social justice were vitally important in elevating this ongoing public health threat to national attention; covered again this week on CNN. His sociopolitical involvement was equally evident in his two previous pastoral assignments at St. James AME in St. Paul, MN and Historic Ebenezer AME in Detroit. He’s volunteered actively to reduce African American students’ high dropout rate; and was the sole clergyperson to provide court testimony to remove a liquor store and an adult bookstore from his church’s community. Rev. Moore has garnered multiple awards for community service and leadership, the Richard Allen Award for service and activism, and has been honored as Pastor of the Year by the (AME) Michigan Annual Conference Lay Organization. Notably, Rev. Moore’s powerful, unique non-manuscript preaching has transformed the lives of those who have witnessed his gift in operation, and the manifestation of God’s Spirit as he preaches. His sermons and teaching inspire the intellectual, motivate the complacent, and empower the established Christian!
In his last position before transitioning into the full-time pastorate - as a Human Resources professional at H&R Block Financial Advisors - Pastor Moore was the first African-American to provide sexual harassment training, facilitated H&RB’s newly implemented Code of Business Ethics, and wrote the company’s Short Term Disability Policy. He holds a B.S. in Psychology from Elizabeth City State University (NC) and a Master’s in Pastoral Counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary, where he is presently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry with an emphasis on Transformative Leadership. He’s also been bestowed an Honorary Doctorate from the Tennessee School of Religion. He is a charter member and past Chaplain of the Southfield, MI Alumni Tau Kappa Kappa Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
Pastor Moore is joyfully married to Rev. Sharon D. Moore, also an ordained Itinerant Elder in the AME Church; his co-partner in the ministry, and the one whom he considers his biggest blessing and very best friend! Rev. Sharon founded their previous church’s women’s ministry, E.A.G.L.E.S. - cultivating women’s individual spiritual lives through regular enrichment sessions, retreats, group sessions and worship services; equipping women for mental, emotional, physical, and financial development and prosperity. Rev. Sharon has been recognized and honored by the Michigan Chronicle for her leadership in the religious community, and by the National Coalition of Women In Ministry with their prestigious Esther Award. Together, The Moores are the blessed parents of three children; Candace Desiree, Chloe Dominique and Caleb Darius Moore. To God be the glory for the things He has done!
